The center of interest in this photograph is the flowers. They draw the most attention because they stand out against the background. The bright colors are emphasized by the white garbage bag. They also contrast with the background. Because the background is mostly blacked out, it brings more attention to the main subject. The text also compliments it because it doesn't distract from the flowers, but is still noticeable.
Texture was used with the flowers and a little bit with the bag. Because the flowers stick out a little, they create a bit of a three dimensional shape. This helps the photo stick out more. The text also uses some texture. it compliments the texture in the flower because it isn't completely neat and looks kind of like hand writing. This is a successful piece of art. You can tell what the message is even if you were only seeing either the image or the wording. This makes it successful because if each part can tell the message by itself, they make the final thing stronger. To make it better, I would have the flowers be a little more in focus. The meaning of this picture is that the Earth is valuable and should be preserved. It promotes environmental conservation. I fell connected to it because this is an issue that I care about and think that it's very important. It is pretty easy to understand because you wouldn't normally throw flowers in the garbage, so it's not something you would normally see.

This photo was taken with a digital camera. Color and space are used to their full potential. The empty space on the top third of the photo create more definition for the subjects. The dominant principle of design is the emphasis on the spoon created by the empty space and neutral colors. The photo creates a sense of relaxation because the colors are calming. This photo absolutely has personal voice because it was an original idea and I wouldn’t change anything.
This photo was taken with a digital camera. Color fully benefits this photo because it makes your eye move around. The dominant principle of design is contrast; the shadows create interest with the leaves. The blurred out background brings in more white value which also creates more contrast. This photo creates a feeling of peace because the sun dappling the leaves is relaxing. This photo has personal voice because it aligns with my personal sense of style in photography. I wouldn’t change anything.
This photo was created with a digital camera. The color in this photo makes it superior because it creates a background that complements the foreground. The dominant principle of design is contrast because the dark values make the colors stand out more, which creates emphasis. The photo creates a feeling of being in a hurry, because of the blur. The creativity of this photo completely gives it personal voice. This photo is absolutely successful and I wouldn’t change anything.
A digital camera was used to take this photo. The placement of the objects in this photo benefit it because they make your eye move around the picture. The dominant principle of design is the motion. Depth is also an element that is applied well. The placement of the dog makes motion the central focus, but her brother and the lamp in the background create a sense of depth. This photo creates a sense of family. There is absolutely personal voice because it incorporates personal subjects: her dog and brother. The intention of the photo is to show a family moment. This is a fully successful photo and the only thing I would change is to give it a little more contrast so there is more white value.
The media used for the was a digital camera. This photo fully benefits from the application of value. It makes the subject more defined and directs your vision. The dominant principle of design is contrast, which corresponds with value. The dark black and grey background makes the white dog stand out more and it seems to project. This gives it form. This photo gives off a feeling of playfulness. There is personal voice because it is creative and thought out. This is an almost fully successful piece of art because the focus on the dog could be improved.
Name 4 types of blur that were discussed in this chapter.
1. subject motion blur 2. camera motion blur 3. out of focus blur 4. depth of field blur Describe how shutter speeds affect the way motion is captured in a photo. Higher shutter speed freeze the subject's motion; slow speed blurs the motion. Select 2 photos in this chapter that you feel convey movement movement most successfully. What choices did the photographers make to achieve the photo's success? What other choices would also have worked for the photographs. Some choices the photographers made were to photograph the subject close up and have a muted background so as to not distract from the main object. They could also have photographed it from different angles to portray a different perspective. When you take a photo of a moving objects with a very slow shutter speed and keep the camera steady what happens? The subject will be blurred. Look at the images of frozen action by Harold Edgerton. How do the shapes of the apple and the liquid convey a sense of movement even though they are frozen and static? They portray a sense of motion because they are frozen in an unnatural position and are in the middle of a motion to fall to a resting position. Aperture - The space through which light passes.
Shutter Speed - Controls the time that light is allowed to hit the imaging chip or film. ISO - (International Standards Organization) indicates how sensitive to light film is. Exposure - How much light hits the light sensitive material (film or imaging chip) when taking a photo. Depth of Field - How much of the scene is in focus in the photo. Stops - The increments that exposure is measured in. It's measured by halving and doubling; increasing the exposure by one stop doubles the total amount of light. What are two positives about your Principles and Elements Project?
I had a lot of photos to choose from. What would you have changed? I would have taken a little more time with a couple of pictures because some of them could have been good but they were taken too quickly. What are two positives about your Shadows and Reflections Project? I had some creative ideas that turned out well. What would you have changed? I would've had more pictures to choose from and more variety. What is the difference between a photograph and a snapshot? A photograph is a picture that is well thought out and takes more time to produce; a snapshot is a picture that is taken very quickly. For your Shadows and Reflections did you take more snapshots or photographs? photographs What do you need to do to take more photographs and less snapshots? creativity, original ideas, and patience |
